PREVIEW: Why Camden Rocks 2016 is a Must-See

This weekend sees one of the “don’t miss” dates in the London live music calendar. The startlingly good ‘Camden Rocks’ is back on Saturday 4th June and this year, now the full line-up and stage times have been published, it’s clearer to see what all the fuss is about.

The weekend promises balmy 20oC temperatures and as compact a ‘walkabout’ as you could hope for; Camden being blessed with a myriad of quaint, spectacular, historic and downright scuzzy venues. You might choose to spot a Britpop ‘has-been’ at The Good Mixer or some other type of ‘has-been’ at The Hawley Arms, but whatever you do, don’t be one of those who has been daft enough not to show up.

For me, there are three unbelievably good reasons to be in attendance and with the scheduling blessing those among us who just about worship these three bands. You could do a lot worse than be at The Black Heart at 17:00 (the wonderful Asylums), The Barfly at 19:00 (staggeringly good The Virginmarys; stalwarts of this festival) or The Barfly again (how lucky) at 20:15 for the gobsmacking Yuck). Those are my “do not miss” recommendations.

Outside of that will you see Ginger Wildheart? The Cribs? The awesome Billy Bragg? The emerging talent of Creeper or the head-back roar of Moses? There really are so many to choose from that there wasn’t even time to mention Carl Barat, Sikth, Jim Jones, Glen Matlock… the list goes on and on.
