Years & Years Share ‘Eyes Shut’ Video
Off the back of the year’s biggest debut album by a British band, Years & Years announce details of their new single – ‘Eyes Shut’ – due for impact on November 13th on Polydor.
This summer saw Years & Years release one of the most hotly anticipated debut records of the year. Entering the UK charts at #1 and Top 10 in 10 countries internationally ‘Communion’ has now sold over 650,000 copies worldwide. ‘Shine’, the previous single, spent 8 weeks on the Radio 1 playlist, charting at #2 the week of album release and King has sold over 1 million worldwide.
New single ‘Eyes Shut’ showcases a more introspective facet of the album, exploring stark and brooding lyrical subject matter only to emerge as a consoling and majestically soaring ballad. “The time I wrote it I was feeling very depressed so it was a bit more introspective than the other songs, says frontman Olly Alexander. “I wrote it to be kind of a personal torch song.”
The imaginative and escapist video for the song reflects this: “The song is about self preservation and wanting to hide from disaster. For the video we created a dystopian world and let ourselves loose in it”, Olly explains.
Following a summer jam-packed with big festival slots including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, Years & Years are currently on their biggest sold out tour in the US. Soon they will return to the UK to get started on their biggest ever sold out headline headline tour, kicking off in Birmingham on the 9th October and stopping off for 2 shows at London’s Brixton Academy on the 27th and 28th.
