Joey Jordison Unveils New Side Project
Slipknot’s Joey Jordison has unveiled details of his new project, Scar The Martyr. Recorded at Sound Farm Studios in his native Des Moines, Iowa, Scar The Martyr’s as yet untitled debut album was produced by Rhys Fulber whose production & mixing credits include Fear Factory, Rob Zombie, Mindless Self Indulgence, Front Line Assembly and more. The album is set to land this Autumn via Roadrunner Records.
Internationally recognized as one of the best drummers in rock, Jordison is the primary songwriter and drummer for the Grammy Award-winning musical ground-breakers, Slipknot. The Scar The Martyr recording sessions saw him not only behind the drum kit, but also playing bass on all tracks, and rhythm guitar on all but two. The album was written by Joey together with vocalist Henry Derek, and joining them in the studio for the recording sessions were keyboardist Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails), and lead guitarists, Jed Simon (Strapping Young Lad) and Kris Norris (Darkest Hour).
Scar The Martyr sees Jordison treading new sonic territory and expanding upon his remarkable and diverse abilities as songwriter. His vast musical range was previously showcased when he was chosen as one of four ‘team leaders’ on the Roadrunner 25 album, a project to commemorate Roadrunner’s 25 years in the game. That experience allowed Jordison to create a number of very different tracks across a range of rock genres, together with a selection of guest musicians of Joey’s choosing from the vast Roadrunner roster of talent. Jordison delivered some of the historical project’s stand-out tracks and demonstrated his musical versatility is second to none.
In relation to Scar The Martyr, Joey comments; “With this project, I focused my efforts on writing for the better of the song. I wasn’t worried about flash or persona… It’s all about writing a good solid song. I’m writing music that people can grasp and hold on to…something that resonates. If you don’t have that, then you have nothing.”
The career of Joey Jordison is one that, by any measure, stands among the most creative, and impressive in the history of contemporary heavy music. It is a career that really has been many careers – musician, songwriter, and producer – coming from small town beginnings to global stardom. Jordison’s journey has included an extraordinary string of hits, 11 platinum and 40 gold records worldwide, and a Grammy Award with Slipknot, as well as numerous industry accolades for his top tier musicianship and, above all, an immeasurable influence on countless fellow artists and passionate fans around the world.
